Rate My Small School
Upperclassmen - what do you wish you had known before you chose your small school? Contribute to the community by describing your high school experience.
Data
Curated from 129 Berkeley High students.
The main question on our form was an inherently subjective one: On a scale of 1-5, how strongly would you recommend your small school?
Note that due to the nature of AMPS, AHA, and CAS, these datasets have a smaller sample size. We are working with students from these communities to gather more responses.
Although the above data offers some insight, it doesn't paint a complete picture. To address this, we asked students an additional 10 questions concerning their small school. These inquiries encompassed various aspects of their small school environment, including their enjoyment of courses and how well they know their teachers. Each student rated these aspects on a scale of 1 to 5. The following table presents a composite of these rankings, categorized by topic area.
Overall: "How strongly would you recommend your small school?"; Competitive: "How competitive is your small school?"; Friends: "How easy is it to make friends at your small school?"; Teachers: "How well do your teachers know you?"; Supported: "How supported do you feel at your small school?"; Courses: "How satisfied are you with the course selection at your small school?" Higher numbers indicate a more positive experience.
Specific Questions
We also asked some more specific questions. The following chart shows the percent of students from each community who answered "yes" to the following question: "Have all your teachers known you by name?"
We also asked students their unweighted GPA. The following chart displays the results by small school:
Note that only 55% of students answered the optional question "What is your unweighted GPA?" This dataset may not be representative of the broader student body.
One large difference between the small schools is elective choice. The following chart shows preference on elective choice from each community for the following question: "What do you want concerning elective choice in your community?"
